For Immediate Release
The publication of the historical and genealogical book Josefa Marquesa del Pumar will be announced in Puerto Rico
Published in Spanish, the book by the 92-year-old author, the Puerto Rican lady, Doña María Luisa Caballero Franco, reveals a historical mystery from the pages of oblivion, until today!
(April 2015 - San Juan, Puerto Rico) - Josefa Marquesa del Pumar, a recently published book, written by Doña María Luisa Caballero Franco, Doña Magua, as she is affectionately known, will be entering the Spanish-speaking markets.
Doña Magua explored the field of genealogy as a hobby and discovered that her grandmother was a Venezuelan fifth generation marchioness, the daughter of the Marquis of Pumar, of Barinas, Venezuela. Don José Ignacio del Pumar and Traspuesto, the Marquis of Pumar, was a wealthy and much admired citizen, who was awarded the highest honor of the Spanish Crown: The Royal and Distinguished Order of Carlos III as a Supernumerary Knight. The Marquis of Pumar was a hero of the revolutionary war in Venezuela after he joined General Simon Bolivar. The Marchioness (la Marquesa del Pumar) was banished by General Bolivar from Venezuela for her allegiance to the Spanish King and set sail to Puerto Rico in 1821 in the worst misery.
“The book, which provides transcriptions from archival sources, entailing 103 pages of primary source documents, while offering an interesting read, leaving the reader to become familiar with the family of the marchioness and her tragic situation in which she was to reach Puerto Rico" says the author, adding that "Doña Josefa writes letters to the Spanish King asking for a pension where she reveals her past, values, skills and aspirations”. Historically, the life of Josefa offers an unusual female perspective of the political and cultural movement of the period from 1814-1830, two hundred years ago.
The 92-year-old author shall be in Puerto Rico as the guest of the Puerto Rican Genealogical Society to introduce her book and give a private talk to their members on the celebration of the Society’s 25th anniversary scheduled for May 30th, 2015.
Doña Magua is also delivering a 30-minute presentation at the Book Exhibit of the Annual Conference of the Latin American Studies Association (LASA) on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at 2:30pm, Salon Los Rosales at the Caribe Hilton Hotel. She invites all interested individuals to attend. The cost of admission to LASA is $10 for a full day of conferences.
Doña Magua will be available to be interviewed and to share her impressions of her book, Josefa, Marquesa del Pumar between May 25-31, 2015 when she visits la Isla del Encanto.
Being Puerto Rican, the greatest desire of Doña Magua is to present his book for the first time in Puerto Rico. She lives for extended stays in Los Angeles, California with her daughter and the editor of the book, Conchita Franco Serri, "I wanted to come to Puerto Rico to share with those interested in genealogy that large family stories that are like jewels, hidden and must revealed by means of the use of genealogy works." Her book will be available in Amazon this coming April 15, 2015.
